LASER EYE CORRECTION to correct vision without Contacts or Glasses
LASIK - LASER EYE CORRECTION to correct vision without Contacts or GlassesLasik is a common procedure done on the eye to correct vision problems and is typically done at a modern Laser Eye Correction Center facility. LASIK is an acronym for laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis and has been around for a few years and is now considered a rather common procedure. Many vision focusing problems including nearsightedness and farsightedness, by far the two most common can now be treated using the latest in laser surgical treatments. Even many of the more complex vision problems caused by mis shapen corneas, can now be corrected using the latest refractive surgery techniques. Lasik popularity continues to grow especially as the population, at least in the United States continues to age. Lasiks popularity is due to the ever growing success rate patients are having with the surgical procedure. Although not a true permanent solution to near and far distance sight, it can provide a very significant increase in clarity and lower the need for full time use of eyeglasses or contacts. Even with a perfect 20/20 result however, the fact is that as we age, the cornea or lens over the eyeball becomes less flexible thereby once again causing vision impairment that requires corrective lenses. Laser eye surgery is typically used for those who suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. Even the worst cases of these problems can benefit from the surgical procedure. Consider the person who needs a substantial correction. These folks usually have very thick eyeglasses to allow them to see clearly. Laser surgery can be used to correct a large percentage of the problem with the result being a much thinner eyeglass prescription would be needed. Until the advent of LASIK, eyeglasses and contacts were used to treat typical vision issues, but only served as aids to vision rather than actually correct it. Those who have undergone a successful laser eye surgical procedure typically find that their need for such aids are usually eliminated altogether. Even the most difficult cases have reported a positive result in the need and strength of eyeglass corrections needed. It's all about the Light Lasik or Lasic eye surgery technically reshapes the cornea from within the eye itself using laser to accomplish the task. By reshaping the cornea, the light coming into the eye is bent in such a way as to allow for more normal vision. If your cornea is not shaped correctly to match the retina and other parts of the eye, distortions arise that are seen as near and far sightedness. By using the laser surgical techniques, the cornea or lens can be reshaped to permit more accurate light refracting or better eyesight. This refocuses the light into a better visual image that then eliminates the need for eyeglasses. This is also the way eyeglasses bend or refract light to produce a higher quality or clearer image for your eyes. If considering Lasick eye surgery, the first step would be to select a doctor. This is NOT the time to shop only by price alone. Although the risks are small, we're talking about delicate surgery on eyes that can impact the quality of your life forever. Locate a doctor through references and research. Someone who has done a lot of these procedures can be expected to have the experience to deliver a positive result. Once the doctor has been selected, the next step is a complete eye exam. If the doctor doesn't require this important step, RUN don't walk to another doctor. The exe examination is critical to understanding what needs done during the procedure to correct your vision. Once completed, an consultation appointment will be scheduled to address any questions or concerns you may have about the surgery, the procedure in general or the results you can expect. Prior to the scheduled surgery date, you will probably be instructed not to wear your glasses or contacts for a couple of weeks. This is to allow the cornea to relax and return to it's more "normal" shape. Remember that glasses and contacts adjust the light that in turn can change the way your eyes see things. This change needs to be modified to return your eyes to a more natural state. This is especially turn with contact lenses. Contacts, like glasses change the shape of the cornea so be certain not to use either eyeglasses or contacts for up to a month before surgery. On the day of your surgery, be early to the Laser Eye Center or doctor's office. Do not use any lotions or make-up. Come to the doctors completely clean and as antiseptic as possible. Once art the eye surgery center or doctor's office, the first step administering anesthetic drops in each eye. These drops will eliminate or at least minimize any pain or discomfort. You'll then be placed on a table with your head positioned under the laser or Lasik equipment. The doctor will then align your eyes with a blinking light. Using a special instrument to your eye open, the doctor will begin the Lasik surgery treatment. The other eye is typically protected with a soft shield of some type. After making a small cut, the doctor will expose the cornea, and the laser will apply it's magic and modify this very critical part of your eye. The laser is used to reshape the cornea to allow for more accurate refractive properties that will result in better eyesight. Once accomplished, the flap that was cut open to expose the cornea will be put back into position and will heal on its own. Stitches are typically not needed. The total procedure for each eye takes between 10 and 30 minutes with 15 minutes being about average. Once the surgical procedure is completed, you're sent to recovery and on your way back home within a couple of hours. Full recovery can be expected in less than a month. Although this varies, many people have the surgery on Friday and are back to work the following Monday morning. Lasix Eye Surgery Definitions, Terms and Acronyms:
