Selecting a Lasik Surgeon - Experience Matters

Lasik Surgeon - Talent, Experience and Knowledge

If you're thinking about Lasik eye surgery, you should be also be considering the LASIK SURGEON. The risk of complications escalates dramatically depending on the level of competence and knowledge of the selected Surgeon. This means it's critical to your long term vision to learn as much as possible and find the best surgeon to perform the procedure. Lasik is a relatively simple and fast procedure when performed by an experienced surgeon. The entire surgery takes about 30 minutes for both eyes but in and out in under 20 minutes is sometimes possible.

Most types of common vision clarity impairments can benefit from Lasic or laser surgery. These include shortsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. The cause of all these ailments is the shape of your cornea. A talented Lasik surgeon can reshape the cornea using the latest techniques and equipment delivering almost perfect vision in a very short time. By reshaping the cornea, light is better focused on the retina which results in better vision.

The surgeon doesn't use a general anesthetic. Before the surgery, patients are usually given a few anesthetic drops in each eye. You need to be conscious but relaxed to adjust your head and look directly into the laser for cornea modification. The anesthetic drops work great so you will not feel any pain. Pressure and some minor discomfort are all the physical inputs your should realize.

Once brought into the Laser room, Lasik surgery is done using a step by step procedure

First, the Lasik surgeon will numb your eyes with the drops and insert a stint to hold open your eyes. Don't worry, you won't feel it.

Second, the surgeon will then cut a flap in the cornea to allow for adjustment and modification. This is usually done with a delicate cutting tool known as a microkeratome. Again, don't worry, you won't feel this either. This however is where the surgeons knowledge and experience come into play. This is a talent only developed through education and experience.

Third step is to position the laser over your head. You will be directed to look into it directly for about a minute while remaining as still as possible and breathing normally. This gets you ready for the laser and surgeon to do their work. Again, having a good result is based on having a good surgeon. While you're lying on the table is not the time to consider that you paid 300 dollars per eye and went with the cheapest price.

Fourth step is when the laser starts to make the adjustments. The laser knows exactly where and how much to modify the cornea. This information is entered into the computer controls by the Lasik surgeon.

Lastly, the cornea flap is put back on it place. No stitches are needed.

After a short period of recovery, you go home! Home care is bed rest, eye drops for a few days and protecting your eyes the first few days from direct sunlight and any possible direct impact.

After a few days, your eyesight will return better than ever and you can return to your normal routine. Fast, safe and easy.

So if you expect a good outcome, it's important to consider much more than price when deciding who will cut and laser your eyes. Experience, knowledge and talent of a fully trained Lasik Surgeon will give you peace of mind long after the cheap price is forgotten.
